TAPERT, Edwin William
Edwin William Tapert, age 89, who currently resided in
Upland, CA, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Edwin was born March 8, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of the late Frederick E. Tapert and the late Ethel P. Smith. Edwin proudly served our country during the World War II and was recalled to serve during the Korean conflict, retiring after 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He then took his civilian job and was proudly employed with the Los Angeles City Fire Department and retired after 30 years. Edwin loved to fly. He was a pilot in the Navy and a private pilot Instructor once he finished his military flying. He enjoyed camping and taking his grandchildren annually to the military beach camps. He also enjoyed traveling the world prior to Doris death, and boasted frequently about seeing everywhere except Israel, which he and Doris had planned on going to before Doris had a stroke several years back. He loved a good long hand of golf, and enjoyed life to its fullest opportunities. He was a joker by heart and loved a good joke. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Doris L. Tapert.
He is survived by his children, Bruce Tapert of Beaumont, CA; Beth Combs of Apple Valley, CA; Judith Sherry of Phoenix Arizona; Kenneth Tapert of Henderson, NV: Richard Tapert of Upland, CA; and their spouse, along with his five siblings; Shirley Williams, Fred Tapert, Dolores Collins, Doris Stackpole and Pearl Willette; and many grandchildren, as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory Hemet, 1501 West Florida Ave, Hemet, CA.
