David Kirk Robinson
May 30, 1918 – August 20, 2013

"I'd like cappuccino ice cream with chocolate sauce and two cookies, please." Dave's love of sweets paralleled his insatiable zest for life. He passed away peacefully, and with much love, on August 20th surrounded by his four children.
Dave was born on May 30, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio to Jean Kirk Robinson and Howard Hall Robinson and grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from Highland Park High School as Class President. He was an Eagle Scout and longtime supporter of Boy Scouts of America. Dave went on to his beloved Princeton University, graduating in the Class of 1940. From there he attended Harvard Law School for two years until his education was interrupted while he served as a Special Agent in the FBI. During that time he met Charmian Burkhard Everding from Pasadena, who was to become the love of his life. They were married October 19, 1946 after his graduation from Stanford Law School earlier that year. Dave went on to practice law at Hahn & Hahn in Pasadena from 1946 until his retirement 60 years later. He was President of the Pasadena Bar Association in 1968, President of the California Bar Association in 1971-1972 and President of the Western States Bar Conference thereafter. He was a Member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association from 1988-1991. He was also a Member of the Board of the Western Justice Center Foundation, California Savings and Loan League, US Savings and Loan League, American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Fellow and Chair of American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1998 he received the Donald R. Wright Distinguished Service Award.
Some of his other affiliations included Member of the Board of Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority (1986-93), Life Member of Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, Kiwanis Club, University Club, the Athenaeum at Caltech, Past President and Member of Board of Trustees of Polytechnic School, Member and Past President of Valley Hunt Club, Member of Twilight Club, Chancery Club, Association of Former FBI Agents, City of Pasadena Senior Commission, and All Saints Church – Past Vestryman and Warden.
Dave was not only a great lawyer who loved Hahn & Hahn, his profession and his community but also, a wonderful father and grandfather, instilling in his children and grandchildren some of those mid-western values learned from his parents. He was an avid sportsman who loved fly fishing, duck hunting, skiing, river rafting, tennis and body surfing, living each day to the fullest. While he and Charm traveled the world, always on the go, his favorite place to be was always on the deck at the family beach house in Carpinteria, CA watching the sunset over the Pacific.
Dave is survived by his four children, Rob (Linda Winston), Ann Collins (Jim), Peter (Kay Hodlik), and Tim, along with grandchildren, Linsley Adams (Jeff), Robin Norris (Diego), Trevor Robinson (Chelsea Sullivan), Sarah Robinson (Lennin Lora Santana) and Kelsey Collins. He was a proud great grandfather to Ashlyn, Skylar and Max. He is also survived by Peter's stepson, Rod Hodlik (Kiera Miller) and their son Quinn.
