July 2, 1913 - October 21, 2013
Mike went peacefully to be with the Lord, with loved ones at his side, in his Long Beach home of 63 years. Even though he had no biological children, Mike is survived by a younger generation who he loved and cared for as his own. He adored young people of all ages, especially the little ones, and became a powerful part of their lives. Mike was born in Duluth, Minnesota where he met and married Mildred Solem in 1938. They moved to the L.A. area in 1941 where he worked in the Long Beach Naval Shipyards as well as auto body foreman for Cormier Chevrolet and Harbor Chevrolet. He lost Millie, his wife of 59 years, in 1997. He was an avid reader, and was very knowledgeable about foreign languages, world history, current events and politics. We'll all remember him for his wonderful sense of humor, compassion, generosity and intelligence. He celebrated his 100th birthday in July at his home with close family and friends. His wish was for no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to U.S.O, P.O. Box 96322, Washington, DC 20090-63223 or online at www.uso.org.
