Schmitz, Caroline M.
Caroline M. Schmitz, 88, of Mt. Calvary, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home. She was born May 10, 1925 in the Town of Empire, the daughter of Albert and Mildred Bradford Sabel. On October 1, 1949 she married Robert H. Schmitz, Sr. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. Caroline worked on the family farm in Johnsburg with her husband for many years until selling their farm in 1989. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church and was involved in 4-H and Christian Mothers. Caroline enjoyed sewing, making rugs, playing cards, bowling, word searches, gardening, scrapbooking, collecting stamps, canning, cooking, baking, raising ducks and most of all loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; eight children, Marie Schmitz, Fond du Lac, Theresa (Thomas) Theel, Johnsburg, Delores (Tabby) Kantala, Summerville, SC, Bernice (Lynn) Bub, Elkhart Lake, Robert Schmitz, Jr., Ripon, Richard (Lori) Schmitz, Brothertown, Helen (Thomas) Lichtenwald, Fond du Lac, Roman Schmitz, Sheboygan; ten grandchildren, Angela Boehning, Aaron and Amber Theel, Dmytro, Daniel, Talban, and Kenrick Kantala, Adam Bub, Alana DeRouin, Justin Schmitz; seven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Gilson (Edna) Sabel, Adeline (Leo) Lefeber, Mildred (Chester) Rowe, Albert (Mildred) Sabel, Agnes Freund.
The visitation will be held Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Villa Loretto Nursing Home Chapel, N8114 County Road WW, Mt. Calvary and again on Monday from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home Chapel with Rev. Oliver Bambenek officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Parish Cemetery.
Caroline's family would like to express their appreciation to the Villa Loretto Sisters and staff for the excellent care they gave to her. It was very comforting knowing she was in good hands.
