Leonard Doelder
Leonard Doelder, 91 of Sheboygan, loving husband and father went home to be with his Lord on July 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Leonard was born on September 6th, 1922 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to John and Nellie Doelder. He served in the Army December 28, 1942 through April 4, 1946 in the European Theater, 252nd Field Artillery Battalion, during World War II. Throughout his life he told many war stories. He talked about his Army buddies which were from Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois area. The hardest part of the war was losing his brother Peter who was also serving his country during World War II. He was wounded while flying a mission for someone else and didn't survive his injuries.
After the war he came back to Sheboygan, meeting his "love of his Life" Dolores Giefer. He knew he wanted to marry her the day they met. Five weeks later they eloped and were married in Milwaukee on February 20, 1947 at the First Methodist Church. They were married 67 years.
Leonard and Dolores raised their three children in Sheboygan. Leonard built their home in the Town of Wilson. He was very proud of his home and big yard. He enjoyed many family picnics and croquet games there. You could always find Leonard in his yard. He loved doing something outside as much as he could. It kept him in great shape and young at heart. In the past year he could be seen shoveling snow and cutting grass.
Leonard was employed as a carpenter learning the trade from his father, who was a contractor. He was employed by Earl's Construction Company for 19 years and Bob Maxfield Construction for 13 years. He also worked for various other construction firms. Leonard retired in 1984. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling, fishing, dancing, and yard work. He visited Germany, Arizona, Michigan, and Arkansas visiting his daughter Nancy and family. He also enjoyed bus trips with Pastor Redeker from Our Savior's Lutheran Church. If there was a polka band playing, you would see Leonard and his wife Dolores out on the dance floor. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
He was a past President of the Carpenters Local 731 which he was a member of 68 years. He also was a past President and Director of the Izaak Walton League. Leonard was an active member of Our Saviors' Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, serving on various boards and ushering for fifty years.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Dolores; three children, Steven, Nancy (Wally), Diana (Jack); six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth Becker. Leonard is further survived numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nellie Doelder, mother and father-in-law, Bernard and Anna Giefer, two brothers, Peter and Edward, two sisters, Jeanette and Marie, brother-in-laws, Raymond, Bernard, Kenny, Robert, and James and a sister-in-law, Elvera.

Doelder Family,
My deepest sympathies for your loss. I'll always remember his friendliness, compassion, and conversations throughout the years. As a kid, I watched my Uncle Lee Ott and him play dartball at Our Savior's too. Wonderful memories. He will be missed.
