Doris Kettler

Doris Kettler

Doris Kettler, 82, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Friday, August 30th, 2013.

Doris was born on June 14, 1931 on the first anniversary of her parents, Henry Karle and Amalia (Schmidt). She was brought up in the Lutheran faith being a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She graduated from Central High School in 1949 and very much enjoyed the monthly gatherings for the Class of '49. In fact, she was one of the members who called each month to organize, as well as, keep track of the members far and wide.

Doris married her true love, Don Kettler, on September 8, 1951. They had five children: Jeffrey Michael and special friend Shelley Meerdink of Sheboygan, Sheryl Ann (Blake) Sommer of Waukesha, Jody Lynn (Ron) Kettler-Bierwirth of Sheboygan, James Scott and life partner Patti Grupe of Cleveland, and Lisa Marie (Greg) Anderson of Crest Hill, IL along with grandchildren Jeremy and Amalia Dill, Neil Kettler-Bierwirth, and great grandchildren Sa'Nya Dill and Zion Currie.

Don was drafted into the Marines at the beginning of the Korean War and Doris followed him to California where he helped build Camp Pendleton. Together they lived in California for two years before moving back to Sheboygan. In 1970, the family moved to a farm in Cleveland, Wisconsin and thoroughly enjoyed rural life.

As an only child, Doris extended her reach to a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. Over the years, she was a mom and grandmother to many who weren't related to her. Her hugs and prayers, hardy laugh and smiles, stories and words of wisdom, baked goods, will be missed by all whose lives she's touched. She sent many cards and prayers for all the right reasons and was known as the "card lady".

Funeral services will be held on 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Ballhorn Chapels. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A family-only entombment will take place at Garden Terrace Mausoleum.

A memorial fund has been established in Doris' name for Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Lutheran High School, and the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Nicholas Hospice and especially her caregivers Lynn, Sandi, and Patty, who showed so much love and compassion.

"Gone yet not forgotten, although we are apart, your spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts."
