Eugene G. Bemis
Eugene G. Bemis, age 79, of Adell, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, IL.
He was born March 22, 1935 son of the late Ira and Lona (Drehiem) Bemis.
He attended Batavia Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School. He later furthered his education at Michigan College of Mining and Technology, North Central College in Illinois, and graduated from The University of Wisconsin
Madison with a degree in Horticulture.
He married Dorothy Fenner on February 29, 1980 at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia.
He was a dedicated and lifelong member of Zion Methodist Church in Batavia, where he served on several committees.
Due to his love for horticulture and his passion for growing plants, in 1950 he started Upland Springs Floral with his brother Richard.
Eugene was a 4-H leader for 50 plus years, a member of the Sheboygan County Beekeepers Assoc., a charter member of the Hill and Gully Riders of Batavia where he served as president, The Greenbush Prospectors Club, and involved and dedicated to many other clubs and associations dealing with horticulture. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, working in his flower beds, watching the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR and spending time with his family at the cottages on Long Lake.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, three children Jean (John) Baumann of Adell, Steve (Sandy Born) Bemis of Adell, John Bemis of Adell, a step son Kevin (Justine) Fenner of Redding, CA, eight grandchildren Angie Baumann of Richfield, Rev. Joshua (Margaret) Baumann of Pierre, SD, Eugene (Sarah) Baumann of Richfield, Russell Baumann of Fort Wayne, IN, Sara Bemis of Adell, Michael Bemis of Grand Forks, ND, Stephanie Bemis of Grand Forks, ND, Cody Bemis of Adell, step grandchildren Shaun Marquardt of Adell, Tammy Laubach of Random Lake, Lili Fenner of Redding, CA, two great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law Richard (Margaret) Bemis of Adell. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death in by his parents and his first wife Ann.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 6 PM at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia with the Rev. Gail Mitchell officiating. Burial will be the following morning in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 3 PM until the time of service.
