Schaefer, Evelyn "Evie' J.

Evelyn "Evie" Schaefer, 85, of Rice Lake, Wis., died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.

She was born on June 5, 1927 in Sheboygan, WI, to Edward and Minna (Zenk) Heise. Evie graduated from the South High School in Sheboygan and was married to James Schaefer on April 7, 1951 in Sheboygan. They owned and operated Green Acre's Motel in Spooner, WI from 1963 to 1969. Evie worked at UW - Barron County Campus with her husband, Jim from 1968 to 1990 in the student center and food service.

Evie volunteered at the Rice Lake Elk's Lodge and Lakeview Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the Rice Lake Elk's Lodge, Rice Lake Lion's Club, Lutheran Choir in Sheboygan and the Red Hat Club. She loved craft making, jewelry making, playing bingo and knitting hats for the babies at Lakeview Medical Center.

Evie Schaefer is survived by two daughters, Lynn Schaefer of Rochester, MN; and Peggy Schaefer of Rice Lake (Scott Anderson of Appleton, WI); two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tim and Sue Schaefer of Waukesha, WI; and Pete Schaefer of Rice Lake, WI; a grandson, Ben Schaefer; three nieces and three nephews; a sister-in-law, Annette Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Schaefer; an infant son; her parents, Edward and Minna Heise; a sister and and brothers-in-law, Arlye and Hubert Smet and Lowell Schaefer.

Prayer Services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals. Per Evie's request a celebration of her life will be held following the services at the Rice Lake Elk's Club.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the University of Wisconsin - Barron County Foundation Memorial Fund.
