Fliss, Dr. Howard A.
Dr. Howard A. Fliss, age 89, of Sheboygan Falls, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. He was born in Milwaukee on December 6, 1923, the son of the late Paul and Valeria Kosobucka Fliss.
He attended local schools in the Milwaukee area and graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee. Howard continued his education by attending Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He was an Optometrist for 3 years in Racine where he met his future wife Doris. On June 8, 1946, Howard was united in marriage to Doris Lucille Ellsworth in Racine, WI. He then went to the Sheboygan Clinic for forty-three years and retired. Doris preceded him in death in November of 2006.
Howard was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 60 years and volunteered in many capacities, for over thirty years for St. Vincent De Paul. Howard was very active in his parishes St. Dominic and Immaculate Conception Catholic Churches. In addition in his retirement he volunteered at St Nicholas Hospital. He enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his three children, Kathleen Budnik, of Sheboygan Falls, Lawrence (Catheryn) Fliss, of Plymouth, Robert (Jane) Fliss, of Cudahy; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Howard is also survived by his brothers, Most Reverend Raphael Fliss, of Duluth, MN and Dr. Arthur (Marilyn) Fliss, of West Bend. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. George and Winifred Fliss, His sister in law and husband Nancy & Danny Vrooman and by his twin boy great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Howard will be celebrated on September 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sheboygan with his nephew, Father Paul Fliss, officiating. Family and friends may call at the church, 1305 Humboldt Ave., Sheboygan from 9:00a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00a.m. Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Howard's name. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the entire staff at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to Howard.
