Avina, Jose J.

Jose J. Avina, age 82, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 13, 1930 the son of the late Jose and Antonia Avina Jasso.

On January 21, 1949, Jose was united in marriage to Mary Rodriguez at Sauz de Armenta, Guanajuato, Mexico. Mary preceded him in death March 5, 2007. Jose migrated to the United States in 1978 and once established in Sheboygan was joined by Mary and their family. Jose was employed at the Austin Grey Iron Foundry for over 15 years. He was an avid sports fan especially baseball. Jose favorite teams were the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and the Green Bay Packers. Jose was known for sitting and watching sports on TV for many hours at a time.

Survivors include his eleven children, Salvador (Sylvia), Antonio (Aurora), Nicolas Avina, of Sheboygan, Elena (Hector) Melendez, of Mexico, Jose (Lupe), Maria Avina, Martin, Sebastian, Faustino (Jennifer), Gerardo Avina and Angelica (David) Guerrero, all of Sheboygan. Jose is further survived by his fifty grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren, three expected great-grandchildren and his brothers, Martin and Manuel Avina, of Mexico. Jose was preceded in death by his wife Mary, two brothers, Candelario and Damian Avina and his sister, Eulogia Avina.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jose will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 12:00P.M. at St. Clement Catholic Church, 707 N. 6th St., Sheboygan, with Rev. Carlos Zapata, officiating. Family and friends may call at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home on Friday evening April 26 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and also at church on Saturday morning from 9:00A.M. until the time of Mass at 12:00P.M. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
