Karl Towsley, 95, of Sheboygan, died Tuesday afternoon, April 9, 2013 at Sheboygan Senior Community.
Karl was born January 26, 1918 in Kaukauna, WI to Charles D. and Carolyn (Jerus) Towsley. He attended local grade schools and was a graduate of Kaukauna High School, Class of 1935. Affectionately known as "Red" Towsley, Karl was an outstanding athlete in high school on the '32, '33, and '34 teams. He was elected to the Kaukauna High School Hall of Fame for athletics. His pass catching was feared throughout the conference. He also played forward on the basketball team and played violin in the school orchestra.
He furthered his education at Lake Forest College in Illinois, where he also pursued his athletic abilities. He excelled in football, basketball, and baseball and won conference honors and was voted to the Lake Forest College Hall of Fame. He graduated in 1939.
He was married to Marie Stark who preceded him in death in 1975.
On April 4, 1981 Karl and Doris Breitzman Sievers were united in marriage at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.
For thirty years Karl was employed at Orkin Pest Control in Health Environment Management Sales and Service for the entire state of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, retiring on January 1, 1980.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and previously sang in the church choir.
Karl belonged to various State and National Pest Control Organizations and was a past member of Sheboygan Elks Lodge
#299. He was an avid golfer his entire life and also enjoyed league bowling. He was a passionate Green Bay Packers fan, holding season tickets for over 50 years and was proud to have attended the famed Ice Bowl game in 1967. He loved traveling, visiting 40 states, the Middle East, and Hawaii. He especially enjoyed visiting his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by his daughter, Mary (John) Whiteley; his sons, Michael (Cathy) Towsley and Mark Towsley; his step-son, Fred A. Sievers; his grandchildren, Brian (Margaret) Whiteley, Kyle Whiteley, Meredith (Joe) Porior, Carolyn Whiteley, Brent Towsley and Tony Towsley; three great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Marie, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Towsley; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Towsley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Rev. Marcus H. Powers, Pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held on Sunday from 12:00pm until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
