Peter Bichler, age 97 went home to his Lord on November 4, 2012 at the Sheboygan Progressive Care Center. Peter was born on August 25, 1915 to Peter and Anna (Langers) Bichler in Marathon, WI. He spent most of his growing up years in Loyal, WI coming to Lake Church, WI after graduation from Loyal High School. Peter married Hilda Rodesch in the town of Lake Church, WI, and April 30, 1938. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2008. Peter served in the U.S. Army during WWII
, and was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, Maryland. He and Hilda settled in Sheboygan where Peter worked at the Kohler Company for forty years.
Peter was active in the Catholic Order of Foresters, having served as Chief Ranger of St. Leo Court #267 for many years. He was also a delegate to three State Court Conventions, and two National Conventions for the Catholic Order of Foresters. Peter played baseball for teams in the Sheboygan and Ozaukee County area, earning the nickname "Fireball Pete" because of his ability to strike out most of the batters he pitched to. An accomplishment in which he took pride. He was also a member of the Liederkrantz Singers for many years. Upon his retirement from Kohler, Peter added to his activities the games of golf and pool, becoming proficient in both. He spent much of his time on the courses around the area, and playing pool at the Sheboygan Senior Center, enjoying his retirement years to the fullest. Peter's good humor, love and dedication to his family and friends will be cherished forever.
Peter is survived by his son James (June) Bichler, daughter Jane (George) Hanson, both of Sheboygan, eight grandchildren; Kay (Richard) Cavnar, Carrollton, TX, Kevin Hanson, Lewisville, TX, Kathleen (Douglas) Jenkins, Cincinnati, OH, Kyle (Jennifer) Hanson, Sussex, WI, Jamie (Gordon) Zastrow, Manitowoc, WI, Jacqueline Bichler, Milwaukee, WI Amanda (Matthew) Scerpella, Mequon, WI and Ryan Bichler, Gurnee, IL, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Francis and Claude, along with nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hilda Rodesch Bichler, seven brothers and five sisters, and one great granddaughter Lilli Hanson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Clements Church on Saturday November 10, 2012, at 10:00 am. The Reverend James Connell will be the Celebrant. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, at the church from 9:00 am until the time of Mass . Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would prefer memorials be given in Peter's name to The Salvation Army ( 710 Pennsylvania Ave. Sheboygan, WI 53081) or Meals on Wheels ( 615 S. 8th St. Sheboygan, WI 53081).
