Richard Henning, age 84 of Sheboygan passed away December 26, 2013 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Richard was born August 27, 1929 in Sheboygan to the late Frederick and Marie (Jorsch) Henning. Richard attended Sheboygan schools and graduated from Central High School in 1947. He then furthered his education at Edison Community College in Florida. Richard proudly served his country in the US Army as a combat engineer in Korea. While in Korea he earned the Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars
, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He was an active member of VFW
Post #9156 and American Legion Post #83. Richard married the former Audrey Leitl on October 21, 1951; she preceded him in death on September 3, 2007. Richard then married Dorothy Boge on June 19, 2010 at Blessed Trinity in Sheboygan Falls. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church - downtown Sheboygan and assisted with the renovation of the church as well as many other projects. Richard enjoyed fishing, boating and following basketball, football and golf. Richard had a great sense of humor and a warm personality that was admired by all who knew him. Richard loved little children; his face would light up every time he saw them.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; sisters Ella Staff of Sheboygan, Barbara (Robert) Bishop of Montana; several nieces and nephews including a special niece Lori Ladiges who helped care for Richard. Richard is further survived by his brothers-in-law Francis (Carol) Boge of Medford, Melvin (Faye) Boge of Wausau and John (Patricia) Boge of Sheboygan Falls.
Richard was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law John (Olga) Henning, Edward (Ruth) Henning, Vottlieb (Henriette) Henning; three sisters Marion (Don) Ladiges, Esther "Peggy" (Freeman) Reider and Alvina (Gottlieb) Schmidt.
Family and friends may call at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 Wisconsin Ave., Sheboygan on Monday from 9-11 A.M. Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Monday at the church with the Rev. Timothy Mech officiating. Entombment to follow at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum with military honors being accorded by VFW Post # 9156.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
