Bernard F. Brentrup

Bernard "Bernie" Brentrup, age 85, of Sheboygan died Sunday morning April 6, 2014. Bernie was born March 28, 1929 in Sheboygan to the late Henry and Elisabeth (Joram) Brentrup. He was a 1954 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. Bernie was united in marriage to Marian Derlein on July 3, 1954 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Bernie and his father worked together in the family business Brentrup Heating and Sheet Metal. When Bernie's father died he purchased the business from him. Bernie enjoyed the business, especially working with wrought iron. Bernie loved the St. Vincent DePaul Society, receiving the Ozanam Medallion in 1998. Bernard began his life as a Vincentian in 1960 at the request of Msgr. Anthony Knackert, a spiritual advisor of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Holy Name Parish. Since then he donated his time and energy to living out this call and promoting the Society. In his later years he enjoyed building metal sculptures and woodworking. He was active in the community and enjoyed being a part of the Black River Advancement Association, Parks and Forestry Commission, Sheboygan Food Pantry, and following the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include his children Robert (Maureen) Brentrup of Hanover, NH, Claire Dacko of Port Angeles, WA, Helen Angell of San Diego, CA and Ann (Alex) Sprague of Boiling Springs, PA, 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a half sister and other relatives in Germany.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Fr. Bruce Brentrup.

Family and friends may call at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1444 S. 11th Street, Sheboygan on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday at the church with Fr. Paul Fliss officiating.
