She was born on February 11, 1918, in Washington County, the daughter of the late Christopher and Ottilie (Berndt) Kirschmann, and on October 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Wilfred E. Strack at St. John's Lutheran Church in Newburg. The couple farmed in the Batavia area from 1939 to 1964. In 2003, Elva and Wilfred moved to Gables on the Pond. Elva will be remembered for her "green thumb". She raised the most beautiful African violets and always had a big garden. She canned everything and loved to bake. Many family members enjoyed her doughnuts. Elva was creative and artistic. Sewn pillows and stuffed animals were some of her special handmade projects.
Those Elva leaves behind to cherish her memory include five children, Wilfred (Darlene) Strack Jr. of Medford, Vincent (Judy) Strack of Cascade, Don (Jean) Strack, Kenneth (Margie) Strack and Patricia (Jerome) Hartmann all of Adell; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Elva was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and Harold Kirschmann and two sisters, Erna Rettmann and Mabel Mertzdorf; a grandson, Matthew Strack; and a great-grandson, Grant Haas.
Funeral services for Elva will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2011, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Batavia. Rev. Kurt Ziemann will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
