Emily Petkus, age 94, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at Sheboygan Senior Community.
Emily was born January 11, 1918 in Sheboygan to John and Elizabeth (Ertel) Ertel. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1936.
Emily met Edward S. Petkus at a Saturday night dance and, a year later, on July 5, 1940, they were married in Dubuque, Iowa. This began a lifelong passion for not only each other, but also for travel to both coasts, Europe, and many cruises. After sixty-eight years of marriage, Ed preceded Emily in death on January 16, 2008.
For twenty-two years Emily was employed in sales at H.C. Prange Co, retiring in 1960.
Emily was a lifelong, faithful, member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In her early years she served as a Boy Scout Den Mother and enjoyed socializing with her friends at their luncheon and card clubs.
Emily is survived by her daughter, Diane Petkus of Astoria, Oregon; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Rosenberg Petkus of Madison; two grandchildren, Sam Petkus of Chicago and Bess (Dave) Crandall of Andover, MA; her sister, Adele Stielow of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Ed, she was preceded in death by an infant son, John Steven; her son, Tom Petkus; her sister, Marie Ertel; and her brothers, Frederick Ertel and John Ertel; and her brother-in-law, Walter Stielow; and her sister-in-law, Jean Ertel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Garden Terrace Mausoleum. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
