Johnson, Johanna A.

Johanna A. "Jo" Johnson, age 84, of Sheboygan, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2013. She was born in Sheboygan on June 8, 1928, daughter of the late George and Anna Byla.

Johanna attended Sheridan Elementary School then graduated in 1947 from Central High School in Sheboygan. She had a passion for music and was a member of the glee club. In 1971, she attended Lakeshore Technical Institute where she studied Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Johanna had an unwavering faith in God. She was an active member of Immanuel Bible Church in Sheboygan. Over the years, she had become involved with the church and enthusiastically lent a hand volunteering her time when asked. Those that knew her, always looked forward to her sunny sense of humor and cheerful greetings. She was a long time, award winning participant in the Foster Grandparents Program at Longfellow School where she tutored, mentored and enriched the lives of countless children.

Johanna was predeceased by her loving and devoted parents, a sister, Margaret Svelauskas, a brother, Vincent Byla; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Rajer. She is survived by her children and spouses, Thomas (Kathleen) Johnson of Saukville, Gregory (Patricia) Johnson of Kohler, Louise Recktenwall of Denver, Colorado, Theresa (Daniel) Gort of Dallas, Texas; two nephews, two nieces, five loving grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Patricia Wallender.

A celebration of Johanna's life will be held on Wednesday April 10, 2013 at 5 pm at Ballhorn Chapels and Crematory, 1201 North 8th Street, Sheboygan, with the Pastor Bradford Canterbury officiating.
