Mary A. (Nickel) Butzen 80, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon June 27, 2012, at her home with her family and her beloved dog Molly by her side.
Born January 6, 1932 in Sheboygan, Mary was a daughter of the late William C. and Ruth A. Fistler Nickel. She attended Jefferson School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School. On September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Richard Edward Butzen at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. They were married for 60 years before Dick preceded her in death on June 10, 2011.
Mary was a homemaker; she made a house a "HOME" and a mother a "MOM". She was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She was a member of Mothers and Others at St. John's United Church of Christ. For many years, she volunteered at Longfellow School, St. Peter Claver School Library and at Greendale Nursing Home.
She enjoyed reading, painting, gardening and crafts. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends. Above all else her greatest joys were spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her five children, Chris (Jim) Rieder, Kiel, Deb (Jim) Dekanich, Kiel, Bill (Vickie), Howards Grove, James "Buzz" (Monica) Sheboygan and Rich "Animal" (Carla), Sheboygan; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters Ruth Siegworth, Beloit, and Judith (Donald) VanCalligan, Sheboygan; sisters-in-law, Gladys Butzen, Sheboygan, and Loraine Butzen, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, her sister, Carol Henning, 5 brothers-in-laws and two sisters-in-laws.
Funeral service for Mary will take place on Monday, July 2, 2012, at 7:00pm at the Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue. Deacon Michael Burch will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation service Tuesday July 3, 2012 and inurnment will take place on Thursday July 5, 2012 in Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the Doctors who took care of her over the years. The nurses and staff at St. Nicholas Hospital, and Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
