Doris Baumann Obituary
Doris E. Baumann

Doris E. Baumann found her eternal reward on August 30, 2012 at the age of 89 years. She is the former Doris Neudeck, born in Sheboygan on September 17, 1922 daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Anderson) Neudeck.

Doris attended the Sheridan School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School.

She worked as a book buyer for H.C. Prange Co, traveling to Chicago and New York to purchase books. One of her greatest enjoyments was to host an autograph party for Bennett Cerf, founder and publisher of Random House.

On April 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Baumann at St. Luke Methodist Church in Sheboygan. Doris and John moved to Monticello, Iowa where she began her life as a new pastors wife. She proved to be the best companion that God could have given to John.

In 1955, the family returned to Wisconsin and lived in Darlington for 13 years while serving at Immanuel U.C.C. They relocated to Kiel, WI and St. Peters U.C.C. until their retirement in 1988. Doris and John were most recently residents of Terrace Estate in Sheboygan.

She devoted much of her time to church activities, including Women's Guild, Church Choir, Sunday School teaching and being a counselor at summer camps. Doris served as a delegate to the U.C.C. General Synod and wrote articles for the N.E. Association of the U.C.C. She also wrote a weekly column for both the LaFayette News and the Kiel Record.

She enjoyed cooking, canning & gardening, knitting, reading & writing, fishing & camping and rosemaling, which she took an interest in because of her Norwegian heritage. Doris also loved traveling, especially to Norway and Germany. Doris will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends for her wonderful smile and her caring ways.

She is the beloved wife of Rev. John Baumann, loving mother of Ruth (Kurt) Windbiel and was blessed with two granddaughters; Kara and Kirsten, all whom survived her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Doris will be held on Sunday September 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's U.C.C. 424 Fremont St. Kiel with the Rev. Judine Duerwaechter and Rev. James Hoppert officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 12:00 (noon) until the time of services. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan.

A memorial fund has been established in her name for St. Peter's UCC and the What If Foundation, which supports child hunger relief in Haiti.

Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home of Kiel is assisting the family.
