Noah Jesse Saemann, age 97, of Elkhart Lake, passed away peacefully at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center on June 18, 2013.
Noah was born August 9, 1915, in Ripon, WI, son of the late Jesse C. and Adelaide E. (Krumrey) Saemann.
Noah graduated from Waldo High School in 1933 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1937 with a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in Economics. He then joined his father in the operation of the Saemann-Schilling Company in Adell, WI.
Noah proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was a radio operator on a C-47 plane and traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.
In 1946, Noah took over the management of Saemann-Schilling until he sold the business in 1955.
On April 21, 1951 he married Virginia L. Voss at the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa, WI. They met in the Crystal Lake/Elkhart Lake area where both enjoyed family summer homes. After residing and raising their family in Whitefish Bay, WI for 18 years, they fulfilled their dream of making Elkhart Lake their permanent residence in 1977.
Noah was an employee of Oster Corporation in Milwaukee for 22 years. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 462 in Adell, member and past president of the Elkhart Lake Service Club, past treasurer of the Elkhart Lake Library Board, and a member of North Shore Congregational Church of Fox Point, WI. Noah enjoyed travel, reading, music, gardening, playing Sheepshead, the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, socializing and spending time with his family. His love for his children and grandchildren was abundant.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Saemann of Oshkosh and Elizabeth (Gary) Gritzmacher of Whitefish Bay; a son, Thomas Saemann of Wauwatosa; five grandchildren, Andrew, Anne, and Kara Gritzmacher, Elizabeth and Margaret Saemann; sister-in-law Virginia Saemann of Plymouth, loving nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Virginia, and his three brothers, John, Henry, and Jesse.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 4:00 PM at Community United Church of Christ (174 N. East Street, Elkhart Lake). Friends may call at the church from 2:30 PM until the time of service. The Reverend Karl Schimpf will officiate. The Schneider Funeral Home & Life Tributes is assisting the family with arrangements.
