Schwalbe, Ronald H.

Ronald H. Schwalbe, age 67 of Manitowoc, died Monday, December 30, 2013 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) at Shady Lane surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was born in Manitowoc on February 26, 1946 son of the late Earl and Caroline (Gaestel) Schwalbe. He graduated from Valders High School with the Class of 1964. On April 1, 1967 Ron married the former Kaye Mowrer at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders.

Ron earned an Associate's Degree in Machine Engineering and Design from Manitowoc Technical Institute and went to work for the USDA Soil and Conservation Department.

In 1967 he began a 41-year-long career with A.C.E. Building Service Inc., Manitowoc. Ron and Jim Steuer became owners of A. C. E. Building Service in 1987 with Ron serving as president. They saw the expansion of the company to a new facility on South 26th St. Besides helping local businesses build their new facilities or make the best use of their existing space, Ron built solid friendships and was always happy to support his customers in whatever way possible whether it was shopping at their store or lending a bit of advice.

He was a longtime member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and past president of the congregation. Ron was happy to give his time and talents to various organizations such as: Jaycees, Rotary, Master Builders, Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin, Shady Lane Board of Directors, Thrivent Financial West Shore Team Board, and the Economic Development Corporation of Manitowoc, among others.

Ron was a very social person. He enjoyed spending good times with family and friends whether it was at home, around town, up north at the cabin or in sunny Puerto Vallarta. He also enjoyed fishing on High Falls Flowage, working on his tree farm, nature photography and local history. After his retirement in 2008 Ron stayed active volunteering and was proud to mentor young business owners through the SCORE program.

Ron is survived by his wife: Kaye Schwalbe, Manitowoc; three sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas (Jodi) Schwalbe, Manitowoc; Chad Schwalbe, Manitowoc; Andrew (Sarah) Schwalbe, Green Bay; three grandchildren: Eli and Erika Schwalbe, Manitowoc, Mollie Schwalbe, Manitowoc; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Rev.
