Rudy Brand, age 88, of Sheboygan passed away on Monday morning, April 9, 2012 at the Sheboygan Progressive Care Center.
The Guest Book is expired.
Rudy was born on May 1, 1923 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Fred and Emmy (Neuman) Brand. He became a child of God on May 20, 1923 and reaffirmed his faith in confirmation on May 26, 1937.
Rudy attended Bethlehem Lutheran School, Longfellow Jr. High and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. During World War II, Rudy worked in Manitowoc as a welder building submarines.
On December 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wiegand. Following their marriage, they resided in Milwaukee and Rudy was employed, again as a welder, for the Milwaukee Road Railroad. In 1948, they returned to Sheboygan where in August their only child, Dennis, was born. After several years in Sheboygan, they moved to Wauwatosa until moving to Bradenton, Florida in 1973, with Rudy always being employed as a welder. They later moved to Sarasota, Florida where he was the custodian at Concordia Lutheran Church, retiring in April of 1986. They continued to live in Florida for many years, returning to Sheboygan to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family. Betty preceded him in death on June 10, 2009.
Rudy loved to "putter around" but mostly enjoyed playing sheepshead or any other game of cards. His first years back in Sheboygan he helped in his son's business as a handyman.
Rudy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Peg Brand of Sheboygan; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter.
A memorial service for Rudy will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, April 12 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Christian F. Gugel, pastor, officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church, S. 23rd and David Ave., on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m.
