Simon, Sylvia L.

Sylvia L. Simon, 97, of Sheboygan passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

Sylvia was born on May 7, 1915 in Sheboygan a daughter to the late Charles and Anna (Kaminski) Gabert. She graduated from Sheboygan High School with the Class of 1933. On September 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Earl Simon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. Earl preceded her in death on November 20, 2003. Prior to her marriage she was a personal shopper at H.C. Prange Co. for the Mary Miles Department and later was a personal secretary for many of the stores department heads. She was also an administrative secretary at the Sheboygan County Courthouse. For many years Sylvia assisted her husband in his employment with the Milwaukee Journal by fielding the many phone calls he would receive due to his position with the newspaper. Sylvia was a member of Bill's Breakfast Club, had been an avid and active swimmer at the YMCA and enjoyed quilting. She enjoyed the many times spent with her husband and family at their lake home in Minnesota, fishing there and throughout the country.

Sylvia is survived by her eight children, Mari Ellen "Sue" (Richard) LaPean of Corcoran, MN, John (Sherry) Simon of Hendersonville, TN, Mark (Barb) Simon of Wausau, Linda (Mike) Vojtasko of Shepherdstown, WV, Charles (Sue) Simon of Sheboygan, James Simon of Sheboygan, Reed (Chris) Simon of Plymouth and Gail Simon of Schroon Lake, NY; 21 grandchildren, Alison Kirschner, Anna LaPean, Jarod, Blake and David Simon, Kristin Chapman and Mike Simon, Matthew and Simon Trevathan, Eva Vojtasko, Amy Ormbrek, Stephanie Kessler, Stacey Stowe, Kurt and Laura Simon, Bill and Becky Simon, Andrea Schroeder and Jennifer Simon, Jason and Eric Burkard; 26 great grandchildren; a great great grandson and a sister, Darlene Lumme of Howards Grove. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive. In addition to her husband, Earl, she was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, a great granddaughter and her parents, Charles Gabert and Anna Liders.

A funeral service for Sylvia will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 8 at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home (Novak-Ramm-Ziegler) with her son-in-law, Rev. Mike Vojtasko officiating. Entombment will be in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home, 1535 S. 12 St. on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established in Sylvia's name.
