Verl V. Mannchen Obituary

Verl V. Mannchen, 93, of Sheboygan Falls died on Saturday morning, September 21, 2013, at the Minnesota Masonic Assisted Living Home in Bloomington, MN where she had resided during the past 10 months.

Verl was born August 1, 1920 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, a daughter of Rufus and Manila Busch. She moved to Sheboygan Falls and attended and graduated from Sheboygan Falls Public Schools. She was a band member and was interested in public speaking. As a youth, she attended St. Paul's Sunday School and was confirmed in 1934. In due time, she became a Sunday School teacher.

After graduation in 1938, she was employed at the Larson Company office in New Holstein. A year later she joined the steno pool at Kohler Company, where she worked until 1942. On June 9, 1945, Verl married Robert Mannchen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls while he was on furlough from World War II. Four children were born to them. Robert preceded Verl in death on January 23, 2011 following 66 years of marriage.

At St. Paul's Lutheran Church, she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. During the WWII years, she compiled a newsletter, Across the Way, of and for the servicemen and women of the St. Paul's congregation. She'll be remembered as a tireless homemaker in cooking, baking, canning, and sewing layettes and quilts for World Relief. She was also an active member of the Sheboygan Community Players for many years.

At St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, she became a member of the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 149.

Verl is survived by one daughter, Karen (Bruce) Grimm of Potomac, MD; two sons, Brian (Jan) Mannchen of Moyock, NC and Tim (Kristine) Mannchen of Savage, MN; a daughter-in-law, Carol Mannchen of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren, Elisabeth "Lisa" Grimm, Nichole Mannchen, Patrick Mannchen, Victoria Mannchen, Michelle Mannchen, Nichole Mannchen, and Danielle Mannchen; two great grandchildren, Alexandra and Joshua Sooley; one sister-in-law, Jane Busch of Sheboygan Falls; one brother-in-law, Robert Leicht of Grafton. Also surviving Verl is her cousin and friend Jean Dalrimple of Edina, MN.

In addition to her husband, Verl was preceded in death by her son Morgan, who died in January 2011; her parents, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Lois Busch, brother and sister-in-law Elroy and Betty Busch, her in-laws Otto and Anna Mannchen, also Ted and Inez Mannchen, Edgar and Maryanne Mannchen, Karl Mannchen, Bill and Phyllis Mannchen and Shirley Leicht.

Throughout her life, her faith and prayer were her foundation, source of strength and guiding light.

A funeral to celebrate Verl's life will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 11 am with the Rev. Helen Nickel officiating. Burial will take place at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
