Walter A. Buss Sr.

Walter A. Buss Sr., age 87, of Plymouth, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in the Town of Sheboygan Falls.

He was born on May 8, 1926 in Plymouth, son of the late William and Odelia (Pitt) Buss.

He attended Elkhart Lake area schools.

Walter heard the call of his country and entered the United States Army serving in Europe from 1945-1948 and also in Korea from 1950-1951.

On March 11, 1950 he married Grace H. Carpenter. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1998.

Walter was employed by Gilson Brothers and Lawn Boy for over 32 years retiring in 1990. In retirement he found himself working for the Town of Rhine Recycling Center for years making many friends along the way. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards, dancing, camping and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He was a dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart Lake where he served as an Elder, Vice-President, President, and Head Usher. He was a member of the Elkhart-Glenbeulah VFW Post # 6973 where he served as Senior Vice-Commander.

He is survived by his special friend Irene Kissinger of Elkhart Lake, three children, Debra Kay (David) Lorenz, Sunday Lee (Richard) Strong, Walter (Ann) Buss Jr. all of the Town of Rhine, seven grandchildren Michael (Molly) Lorenz, Jason Lorenz, Travis (fiancé Andrea) Lorenz, 2nd Lieutenant Cody Strong, Spencer Strong, Tyler Buss and Alyssa Buss, two great grandchildren Trent and Quentin Lorenz, a brother Roland (Linda) Buss of Sheboygan, and a sister Mary Jean (James) Whalen of Milwaukee. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers Elmer, Robert, Eugene, and James, and a sister Evelyn.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart Lake with the Rev. Peter Peitsch officiating. Burial will follow in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 to 7 PM and again on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of service. Military Rights will be conducted at the Woodlawn Cemetery on Tuesday by the World's Cheese Center VFW Post # 5612 of Plymouth.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kumar, Dr. Offermann, the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, and the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice. A heart felt thank you also goes to Irene Kissinger and Barb Sander (special granddaughter) for the wonderful care and concern they have shown to Walter.

A memorial has been established in the name of Walter A. Buss Sr.
