Wilma (Dahmer) Ehler
The Guest Book is expired.
Wilma (Dahmer) Ehler, age 95, went home to be with her Lord on Friday evening, November 22nd at St. Nicholas Hospital. She resided for the past two and a half years at Prairie Crossing active assisted living in Sheboygan Falls.
Wilma was born on Sunday, January 13, 1918 during a blizzard to David and Sophia (Altergott) Dahmer who were German-Russian immigrants. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age.
She attended Jefferson Grade School and the Vocational School in Sheboygan. She worked at the Vollrath Company in Sheboygan.
On November 15, 1941 she was married to Alex Ehler at the Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church. Alex and Wilma celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on November 15, 2007.
Wilma and Alex had two children, Rev. Donald (Darlene) Ehler of LaCrosse and Judy (Sam) Walker of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, Timothy (Glenda) Ehler, Matthew Ehler, and Elizabeth (John) Ehler-Blum all of LaCrosse; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Ehler, Adrian Ehler, Drew Ehler-Blum and Jonathan Ehler all of LaCrosse.
Wilma was a homemaker and helped her husband in his construction business, "Alex Ehler Construction", doing secretarial work. Wilma taught Sunday school (the nursery class) for many years and sang in the church choir. She was active in the Christian Women's Club and Dorcas Society of the church. Wilma loved gardening and was known for her beautiful flower gardens and roses. She loved her roses. She also had a large vegetable garden and did a lot of freezing and canning over the years. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking for her family. While convalescing at several nursing homes from a broken hip and a broken femur, Wilma had a hard time adapting to the generic food. She missed her chicken soup with homemade noodles and many other German-Russian dishes. At the Young People Church Rallies, when held in Sheboygan, Wilma, in her younger years, would have 35 guests for a weekend, serving them meals and after service evening lunch in German-Russian style.
During the winter months, Wilma was always busy making beautiful quilts, bed spreads and doing intricate cross stitching. Wilma was an avid reader of Christian fiction. Her daughter Judy and son-in-law Sam own Sonlight Books in Sheboygan. For several years, Wilma read and judged twenty plus books in 6 weeks, for the Golden Medallion Awards presented by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA). Wilma and Alex enjoyed traveling all over the USA, Mexico, Jamaica and Europe. They attended many conventions including the Builders, Christian Businessmen and Gideon's International. After Alex retired, they enjoyed taking bus trips.
Wilma's favorite scripture was Psalm 23 "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want…" Her favorite songs were "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset".
Wilma is survived by a sister Dorothy Yurk of Sheboygan Falls, two brothers-in-law: Robert Vogt and David Ehler of Sheboygan and two sisters-in-law: Eleanore Dahmer of Scottsbluff, NB and Dorothy Matt of Sheboygan and many nieces and nephews.
