Mark Martin Schaefer Sr.

Mark Martin Schaefer Sr., age 86, went home to be with his Lord on April 11, 2014 at the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth.

He was born on February 15, 1928 son of the late Edwin and Adele (Henze) Schaefer, and attended grade school in Clark County.

In 1945, Mark heard the call of his country and joined the United States Army serving until 1948.

On January 21, 1949 he married Phyllis Bauer in Plymouth. His beloved wife of 65 years went home to be with her Lord just five days later on April 16, 2014 in Marinette.

During his working career Mark ran S&R Cheese outside of Greenbush working as a cheese maker.

He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Glenbeulah, a member of the American Legion Post in Greenbush and the VFW Post in Amberg, WI.

In his free time he enjoyed the out of doors he especially loved to hunt and fish along with sending time his family. Mark always enjoyed two of his favorite meals, fresh fish and meat and potatoes. He also loved spending time with his wife making crafts and painting them.

He is survived by his four children Florice Wondra of Sheboygan, Mark (Victoria) Schaefer Jr. of Wilmot, Constance Schaefer of Plymouth, Linda (Frederick) Marquardt of Buckeye, AZ, seven grandchildren Todd Sterk, Troy Sterk, Gregory (Dawn) Schaefer, Edwin (Krissy) Schaefer, Tina Schaefer, Anthony Marquardt, and Kyle (Brittney) Marquardt, along with seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in conjunction with his beloved wife Phyllis at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth with the Rev. Don Johnson, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Glenbeulah officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 PM until the time of service.
