Frank A. Spender
Frank A. Spender, age 93, of Sheboygan, died on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Sunny Ridge Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan. He was born in Sheboygan on December 13, 1920, the son of the late Matthew and Theresa Koren Spende.
He attended local schools in the Sheboygan area. Frank then enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps, serving his country during World War II in the 646th Squadron. On December 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Doris H. Richter at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Doris preceded him in death on February 25, 2010.
Frank was employed with the City of Sheboygan Parks Department for over twenty years, retiring in 1984. He was current member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and VFW Post 9156. Frank was very proud of Slovenian Heritage and enjoyed spending time his grandchildren and also the family pets.
Survivors include his son, James (Jessica) Spender; grandchildren, Jasmine and Jacob Spender; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Don) Zimmerman, all of Sheboygan and Dorothy Wergin, of Milwaukee. Frank is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Jack (Sharon) Richter, of Pardeeville, Robert (Karen) Richter, of Kelly Lake, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents, wife, three sisters, a niece, a nephew and three brothers-in-law, all preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Ave., Sheboygan with Rev. Richard Cerpich, officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 12:00 P.M. until the time of Mass at 2:00 P.M.. Burial will take place at Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Frank's name. Frank's family would like to thank Marcia Timm with Comfort Keepers for her companion care, also special friend, Donna Feyereisen and special neighbor Bob Lettre. A special thank you is extended to his sister-in-law, Judy Zimermann for her friendship and the phone calls that her and Frank shared every day.
