James L. McKnight, age 67, of Plymouth passed away at Froedtert Hospital on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 7, 1945, in Madison, WI, a son of the late Bernard McKnight and Violet Meek.
Jim graduated from Madison East High School in 1964. He served his country in the United States Navy as a radioman during the Vietnam War. Jim then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and received his Master's Degree from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee.
Jim and his wife, Barbara Miller of Beaver Dam, WI, were married on July 19, 1969. He spent his entire career teaching English and journalism at Plymouth High School for 30 ½ years, retiring in 2002.
He served St. John Lutheran Church and the Plymouth community on numerous boards and committees.
Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara of Plymouth, his children: Brian (Wendy) of Plymouth, Jenna of Cedarburg, Benjamin of Sheboygan and Jill of Pittsburg, PA., one grandson; Hunter McKnight, his mother-in-law; Esther Miller of Plymouth, his brothers; Lon and Kevin McKnight both of Madison, his sisters; Sandy and Karen both of Madison and Brenda Meek of San Diego, his brother-in-law; Kenneth (Ione) Miller of Pittsburg, PA and numerous other relatives and friends.
Jim was proud to serve his country and community, and he loved his family so much. We will miss him terribly.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday Evening, (Nov. 2nd), at 7:00 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Rev. Nathan Meador, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post #243 of Plymouth will conduct military rites at the church following the services.
Friends may call at the CHURCH on Friday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jim's name.
