Jerome William Skelton, age 87, of Plymouth, went home to be with is Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth.
He was born on July 18, 1925 in Cascade, son of the late Henry and Catherine (Doherty) Skelton.
He attended grade school and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943. Upon his graduation Jerome heard the call of his country and joined the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific from July of 1943 to May of 1946. In 2011 he had the privilege of joining the men and women he served with on an Honor Flight to Washington DC.
After returning home he married Mildred Spradau on September 13, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Cascade. She preceded him in death in January 2005.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Cascade where he served as an Altar Boy and Usher. He was a current member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth where he served as an usher and was a member of the Catholic Knights.
Jerome was a member of the Worlds Cheese Center VFW Post # 5612, the Cascade Baseball League, and the 25 Year Club at Bordens. In his free time he volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul in Plymouth.
Throughout his working career he found himself working for the Adell Foundry, Kohler Company Brass, Milwaukee Railroad, Plymouth Foundry, and for 31 years he worked maintenance at Bordens.
He is survived by his two children Sherry (Julian) Romero of Pueblo, CO, Michael (Tammy) Skelton of Sheboygan, two grandchildren Jason (Charlene) Romero, Sara (Brandon) Terrill, three great-grandchildren Jason Jesse, Manuel, and Larissa Romero, a sister-in-law Beverly Skelton, a special friend Dennis Steiner, and numerous special friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred, a brother John, and a sister Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth with Father Dan Volkert officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Schneider Funeral Home & Life Tributes of Plymouth has been entrusted with the arrangements. The Worlds Cheese Center VFW Post # 5612 will conduct military rights at the cemetery on Monday.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Nicholas Hospital and Rocky Knoll Health Care for the wonderful care and concern shown to Jerome and his family.
