Schleusner, Harold "Chief'
The Lord called Harold home on March 29, at the age of 93, his loving wife Gertrude "Terry" (VandenElsen) by his side for 54 years. He passed with his hand in hers.
Raised in Bruce, WI, he joined the Navy. He survived the Pearl Harbor attack, receiving many distinguished honors and commendations while in his 20 years of service, being honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer. Because of his love for the military, he relocated to Sheboygan, WI, where he served an additional 20 years as a civilian employee with the Army Reserve Center.
The Chief then retired to the Wisconsin north woods to enjoy the outdoors which he loved so much. Our memories will be filled with the joy of collecting maple syrup, fishing, hunting, rides on the tractor, and the many things he could make and do with his hands.
Harold is further survived by his sons, Kevin (Vicky) of Newton; Greg (Kelly) of Waukesha; daughters, Debbie (Weber) (Larry) Ellis of Brown Deer; Audrey (Weber) (Scott) Thomson of Sheboygan Falls; and his sister Ramona of Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Henrietta also of Bruce. He has many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gables on the Pond, and Hospice Advantage for the good care and for putting a smile on the Chief's face.
On Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m. an honorary military service will be held in his memory at the Southern Wis. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St., Union Grove.
