Heiner, James "Jim" J.
James J. Heiner, "the guy on the bike", 63, of New Holstein & Green Bay, lost his long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his sister and brother-in-law's home in Green Bay.
He was born November 12, 1949 to Harold and the late Esther (Propson) Heiner.
Jim attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated in 1968 from New Holstein High School. He was drafted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971.
Jim was employed at the Schwartz Hotel, Barefoot Bay, Victorian Village, and last but not least, the Osthoff Hotel in Elkhart Lake, retiring in 2010, due to his illness.
Jim was an avid Packer, Badger, and Marquette Basketball fan. He enjoyed going shopping with his sister and buying plants for around his home. More than anything, he loved getting his bike ride in each and every day no matter what the weather may be. He put on over 7,000 miles this past year.
Survivors include his father, Harold Heiner and stepmother Hazel of New Holstein; sister Diane (Thomas) DeWane of Green Bay whom he resided with; nephew and godson Corey Miller of Green Bay; nephews, Sean (Carrie) DeWane of Green Bay; Eric DeWane of Milwaukee; niece, Nicole DeWane of Green Bay and Alison (Beau) Gagnon of Pulaski; great nephews, Sean Jr., Christian and Cameron; a great niece, Sydney; step sisters, Bonnie Miller, Patty Minter, Robin Brandenburg and families. He is further survived by many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and his faithful companion, Max.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Heiner; grandparents, Robert and Adele Heiner, Joseph and Appolnia Propson.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. New Holstein, WI. Military rites will be conducted at the Funeral Home at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials in his name may be directed to the family for the Green Bay Park and Recreation Trail System.
The Lord saw that you were getting too tired and weak to pedal your bike, so he called you home to rest. Till we all meet up again. Love you, Bud!
