Sippel, Howard "Howie" A.

Howard A. Sippel, age 79, of St. Cloud, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Villa Loretto in Mount Calvary following a 6 month struggle with cancer.

He, along with his twin brother, Harold, was born on October 16, 1933, in St. Cloud to the late Edwin & Rose (Will) Sippel.

He attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School. Howard served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.

On September 24, 1955, he married Marlene Petrie at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe.

Howard was a heavy equipment operator; a skill he acquired while serving in the Army. In his later years of working, he had been employed with Gabe's Construction and Michel's Pipeline.

He was a member of St. Isidore Parish - St. Cloud Church, the St. Cloud American Legion Harvey Blonigen Post 478, and belonged with the Operating Engineers Local 139 for 44 years. Howard belonged with the Winnebago East Shore Lions Club for 35 years serving as president for two terms and nine years on the cabinet. He received the Melvin Jones & Birch Sturm Awards as well as other various recognitions. Howard was very active with the Lions Hearing Aid Program and dedicated many years as an eye transporter for the Lions Eye Bank. He also was an honorary member with the New Holstein Lions Club. He was a former member of the St. Cloud Fire Department.

He truly cherished his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish. He was a true Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching the Brewers.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; his five children, Michael (Lisa) Sippel of Malone, Janice (Fred) Wallo of Plymouth, Lawrence Sippel of St. Cloud, Paul (Sukanya) Sippel of Orlando, FL, and James (Helen) Sippel of St. Cloud; six grandchildren, Sean Sippel, Melissa Buchholz, Nadine (Josh) Neuhaus, Loren (Brian) Johnston, Hanna Sippel, and Alex Sippel; two great-grandchildren, Kyrsten and Danika Neuhaus; his sister, Evangeline "Vangie" Karls of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Peggy Sippel of Voorheesville, NY and Donna Entringer of St. Cloud; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Mary) Petrie of St. Cloud and Marvin (Donna) Korb of Fond du Lac; his four-legged friends Chet, Sing and Chloe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Edwin and Rose Sippel, his twin brother, Harold, his other brothers, Hubert (Eleanore), Eugene, Vernon "Bud" (Elizabeth "Elsie"), his sisters, Vernetta (Raymond) Stephany, Laura Mae, brother-in-law, Clem Karls; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Alex and Regina Petrie, sister-in-law, Geraldine Korb.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, 308 County Road W, in Mt. Calvary. Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap. will officiate.

Family and friends may call at Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein 2618 Altona Avenue on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4-8PM and on Wednesday morning at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church from 9:30-10:45. A wake service will be held at the funeral home in New Holstein Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will take place at St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery.
