Leona A. Dahmer, age 92, formerly of Terrace Estates, passed away on Sunday evening, June 16, 2013 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
Leona was born July 1, 1920 in Sheboygan to Anton and Katherine (Leonhard) Biederwolf.
She attended Holy Name Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1938.
On October 15, 1949 Leona and David Dahmer, Jr. were united in marriage at Holy Name of Jesus Church. The couple enjoyed traveling together over the years with family and friends. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1988.
Leona was a faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Parish and the St. Ann's Christian Women's Group. She was a willing volunteer for the serving of church funeral dinners. She also belonged to the Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters and VFW Post 1230 Ladies Auxiliary.
Leona loved playing bingo and was affectionately known as the "Bingo Queen" by her family. She also enjoyed reading, and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Leona is survived by her children, Bruce (Gerene) Dahmer, William Dahmer, Barbara (Thomas) Schwanke, and Beverly (Robert) Sasse all of Sheboygan; nine grandchildren, Roy (Nicole) Dahmer, Brad (Julie) Dahmer, Abby Dahmer, Neil (fiancée, Becki Guokas) Dahmer, Kristen (Rodrick) Terrazas, Kyle Schwanke, Lindsay (Tyler) Vitse, Kathryn Sasse, and Kelsey Sasse; five great-grandchildren, Chase and Danica Dahmer, Aadin and Carmen Terrazas, and Isiah Maass; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Ehler, Dorothy Yurk, and Eleanor Dahmer; one brother-in-law, Robert Vogt; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome and Sylvester Biederwolf; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Dahmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Rev. Phil Reifenberg, Pastor, will be the celebrant. A time of visitation and support will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will follow at Garden Terrace Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Her family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Terrace Estates, Dr. Chavez, the 3rd floor respiratory and nursing staff at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Wilson, Dr. George Kuttickat, St. Dominic's Home Communion Team and Joseph Reindl, who provides rosary and communion services for the residents of Terrace Estates. All of their efforts on her behalf will always be remembered.
