Gilbert Henry "Gibby" Mand , 93, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Villa Loretto, Mt Calvary after reaching his goal of 93 years, though he joked he planned to live to 100!
He was born June 5, 1920 in Taycheedah Township, WI to Peter and Eleanora "Ella" (Sabel) Mand. He married Germaine Lucilla Schneider May 23, 1944 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho, WI.
Gib attended Holy Cross Catholic School, Mt Calvary, was a parish member all his life & had served on the board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Anthony Society, Holy Name Society, Community Hall Board of Directors and Farm Bureau.
Gib worked at Tecumseh for 22 years and at the same time they were active in farming until retiring in 1984.
Gib is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Germaine, who cherished him through thick and thin, and their love shone brightly, always. Germaine was dedicated to caring for Gilbert at home for 10 years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. They were inseparable. They have 8 children, 19 grandchildren, 14 gr-grandchildren and 1 step-gr-grandchild: Robert (Janice) Mand, & sons Michael & Jeffrey (Amy)Mand; Thomas (Kathleen Beck) Mand & son Benjamin (Jodi Olson) Mand; Dennis Mand & fiancée Kathleen Geis & children Sara, Eric, & Kevin Mand; Paul (Elizabeth) Mand & Patrick & Rachel Mand; Margaret (Rev Liandro) Arellano & sons Liandro Jr (Jamie), Andres' (Danae), Karl, Philip, Caleb & Gregory Arellano; Sandra (Peter) Halbur & children Charles (Melissa) Birschbach, Clara (Jason) Beyersdorf and Nathan (Chrissy) Birschbach; Beverly Mand & her spouse Mark Thomas, David Mand & friend Penny Mortensen, & children Jordan & Courtland Mand; Gr-grandchildren: Ivy & Elias Mand, Adam Freund, Harper & Leighton Mand, Terran Mand Winfield, Ayla & Charlotte Arellano, Landon Arellano, Lillian Birschbach, Aubreigh & Ella Beyersdorf, Marissa, Mason & Madelyn Birschbach. Gib is also survived by two brothers, Walter, Francis (Susan); his in-laws Marcie Gundert, Dolores (Ronald) Reinl, Alphonse (Ella Mae) Schneider, Romilda (Donald) Schmitz, Edwin Koenigs, Franklin (Virginia) Schneider, Evelyn (Lou) Pavlicek; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews; friends & neighbors.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Theresa in 1948, a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Kelley) Mand in 2004, his parents; siblings & their spouses: Joseph (Alvina), Albert (Florence), Clarence (Gertrude), Janet Mand, Helen (Reno) Wagner, Lydia (Alois) Mand, Agnes (Ambrose) Mand, Iris Mand and Leander; his father- and mother-in-law: Bruno (Clara Freund) Schneider; in-laws: Melvin (Dorothy) Schneider, Mildred Koenigs, Ralph Gundert, Marvin Muellenbach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Isidore Parish - Holy Cross Church, 308 County Road W Mt. Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Oliver Bambenek OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemtery in Mt. Calvary.
The visitation will be held Friday July 12, 2013, from 4-8 pm at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street St Cloud, WI 53079 and again on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at St Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mt Calvary.
