Bernice LaPearle, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Sheboygan with her family at her side. She passed away after a valiant six month struggle following open heart surgery. Bernice will be missed by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, great mom, generous grandma and thrilled great-grandma. Bernice had a special love for her grandchildren and they all have fond memories of time spent with her.
Bernice was born on December l6, 1926 in Brady's Bend, PA. She was the first of seven children born to Frances and Anton Zagar. Bernice married Leroy LaPearle on October 21, 1944 in Brady's Bend, PA. They were married for 59 years before his death in 2004. Bernice and Leroy owned and operated Hi-Lo Bakery for 25 years.
They enjoyed boating and traveling. The family spent many weekends boating at Green Lake and fishing on Lake Michigan. Bernice and Leroy took numerous trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and many Caribbean cruises. They had a special trip to Croatia to visit cousins.
Bernice loved watching all sports, especially the Packers. The day before she passed away she watched the entire Packer game. She also enjoyed playing bingo and trips to Oneida.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Nancy LaPearle of Sheboygan, Sandy (Steve) Smith of Clovis, CA, and Antoinette (Ben) Rimkus of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, Scott Rimkus of Sheboygan, Joshua (Trisha) Smith of Ashburn,VA, and Jessalynn (Spencer) Walse of Fresno, CA; 6 great-granddaughters, sisters, Betty Boyle of Plymouth, Mary Jane McHenry of Sheboygan, Rosalie Fields of Abilene, TX; sisters-in-law, Dolly Fleeger of Chicora, PA and Rose (Glenn) Filges of Butler, PA; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews; and her special bingo friend Ruth Glaubig.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy, sister, Anna O'Keefe and brothers, Frank and Eugene Zagar.
A memorial service will be held 7 P.M. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Reinbold -Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan with Fr. Paul Fliss officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Sheboygan or to the family.
