Roger G. "Struppy" Schmitz

Roger G. "Struppy" Schmitz, 73, of Elkhart Lake, died Sunday evening, October 19, 2014 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Plymouth.

He was born April 25, 1941 in Marytown, son of the late Ervin & Lorraine (Halbach) Schmitz.

He attended St. Ann Catholic School.

Roger proudly served his country in the Army National Guard.

On February 4, 1961 he married Judith Sippel at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Parnell.

Roger had previously worked at Leverenz Shoe Co., Tecumseh Products and Klapperich Garage. He retired from Kohler Co. in 2005 after 42 years.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake.

Roger enjoyed working in his shop and camping.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy, his children: Marjorie (Don) Dykstra, Michael (Lisa) Schmitz, Mary (Kevin) Krupp, Marlene (Brian) Wilterdink, Mark (Renee) Schmitz and grandchildren, Carly Dykstra, Mitchell Dykstra & fiance, Mary Brazeal, Melissa Schmitz, Ryan Schmitz & fiance, Natasha Burgos, Keary (Kellie) Krupp, Cassie (Matt) Murray, Jason & Adam Zorn, Nicholas & Collin Wilterdink, Samantha Meyers and Cody Schmitz. He is further survived by three great grandchildren; Owen Murray, Ryker Zorn, Sofia Schmitz, five brothers, Gerry (Patt) Schmitz, Cyril (Kaylin) Schmitz, James (Dori) Schmitz, David (Lynn) Schmitz, Steven (Linda) Schmitz, five sisters; Diane (Dennis) Lenz, Marilyn Ramminger, Carol Walters, Laurie (Glenn) Neils, Judy (Pat) O'Neil, brother-in-law, Robert Williams, sister-in-law, Donna Schmitz, numerous Sippel brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth Schmitz, one sister, Lea Williams and brothers-in-law, Tony Ramminger & Edward Walters.

The funeral Mass for Roger will be celebrated at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake with Fr. Daniel Volkert officiating.

Entombment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Kohler.

Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 5:45 pm when brief family rites will take place.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

Roger's family would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to Dr, David Deubler and his staff for their dedicated care and to the staff at Hospice Advantage for the care and compassion shown to Roger.
