SHELBY--Eugene "Gene" Conner, 81, resident of 150 Valentine Drive, Shelby, died Jan. 7, 2013, at Wendover Hospice, Shelby. He was born in Cleveland County to the late Charles Pinkney and Florence Morrison Conner.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Reed Norman Conner; sisters, Pearl Bates, Ethel Neal, Eunice Lovelace, Bertha Blalock, Ada Conner, and Betty Bolin; and brothers, Clyde Conner, Fred Conner, Johnny Conner, and Ernest Conner.
Mr. Conner was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. He retired from Hoechst Celanese in Spartanburg, S.C., and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Mason and Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Conner of Shelby; son, Kenneth E. Conner and wife Mary Wray of Greenville, S.C.; daughters, Ann Conner Cagle and husband Terry of Columbia, S.C., and Joan Conner Breazeale of Greenville; brother, Bill Conner and wife Hazel of Greenville; sister, Bonnie Collins of Blacksburg; seven grandchildren, Lynn, Chris, and Ben Cagle, Rush, Patrick, and Alex Conner, and Conner Breazeale; two step-sons; and three step-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church

Burial: Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Blacksburg
