Vernie was my cousin and I remember her from my childhood. My parents and brother and sister and I all thought she and Sam could walk on water. No one was ever kinder or sweeter. She helped make the last days of my parents, Quay and Elma Wellmon, so much happier and blessed. My childhood memories are filled with her and Sam, and I know they are together now in heaven because they were special children of God. I am so sorry that I hadn't seen her since I had moved away from Shelby, but I assure all of her special family that she will always remain in my memories and in my heart.
