Hamrick, Ray* - Shelby  
RAY HAMRICK SHELBY- Ray Eugene Hamrick, age 93, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, at his home. He was born in Cleveland County, on Nov. 17, 1921, to the late William Monroe and Effie Leonia Webb Hamrick. Ray served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the DAV and VFW. He was a former Supervisor of the Shelby Mills. Ray was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping and traveling. In addition to his parents, Ray is also preceded in death by a grandson, Victor White; and three brothers. Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Costner Hamrick; son, Ron Hamrick and wife Martha of Shelby; two grandchildren, Michael Hamrick and wife Pattie, and Lisa Hamrick; 4 step great grandchildren Matthew, Alicia, Jay and Clay; and his canine companion "Molly". The family would like to express special thanks to his caregivers Kelly and Pricilla. The family will receive friends following the service. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Garin Hill officiating. Arrangements by Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Harper, Ray* - Shelby  
SHELBY- Ray Edward Harper Jr., born May 14, 1938, departed from this life on April 14, 2015 in the presence of his family in Shelby. Mr. Harper was well known locally as a musician that shared his gift of music in the Cleveland County community and beyond. He retired as a music teacher for Cleveland County Schools many years ago with an excess of 30 years of service. In addition, he has served as a musician for Shiloh Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church, Green Bethel Baptist Church, Salvation Gospel for Souls, Mission for Jesus Christ, Washington Baptist Church and many more. He was also a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Ray was educated in the Cleveland County School System. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music with honors from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University. He was devoted to music, faith and family. He leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Caroline E. Harper 'D. Boot' of the home, Sara Harper Ramseur (Durell) of Shelby, Ray Harper III (Shauntona) of Charlotte, Sharon Harper McGuire of Shelby and Teresa Harper Vincent (Drewry) of Greensboro; a great number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Haywood Harper (Shirley) of Georgia; one sister, Dorothy Wigfall of New Jersey; and he also leaves fond memories with special friend Vivian Haynes. In addition, he has so many friends and extended family members that will cherish their memories with him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria L. Harper; son, Raymond Lamar Harper; mother, Sarah Harper; father, Ray E. Harper Sr.; brother, Joe Harper; "adopted mother", Edna Canady; as well as his "adoptive father" Ernest Canady. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at 3 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., at the church and at other times at the home of Ray E. Harper, 821 Surrey Dr., Shelby. The family wants to extend a special thank you to Hospice Care, Chasity Mitchell, Vivian Haynes, Becky Shell, Deborah Manning and Dwight McGuire Jr., for the time and dedication during his illness. MURIEL HULL VALE- Muriel Lean Workman Hull, of 1385 Peeler Road, Vale, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Cardinal Healthcare in Lincolnton. Born Sept. 28, 1941, she was the daughter of the late J.E. "Boge" Workman and Mary Lou Short Workman. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m., Saturday, at Mull's Chapel Baptist Church. ATTORNEY O'SHUN HINTON SPARTANBURG- Attorney O'Shun Cyrus Hinton 47, of Spartanburg, S.C., died April 12, 2015. He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree from Winston-Salem State University and earned his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the University of Richmond. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Phoebe Smith-Hinton; two sons: Raashid A. Hinton and Osiris Hinton; and his parents, Henry Hinton Jr. and Brenda Hinton. Mr. Hinton was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He was a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the current District Counselor for the Sixth District. The Omega Psi Phi Final Rights Ceremony will be held from 5:30 until 7 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. KAY HAMRICK SHELBY- Kay Hamrick, 63, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Jean Terry Black and her husband Sam of Shelby, and the late John Willis Jones. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Dixon House, and the staff of Kings Mountain Hospice House for all their love and care they extended. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Dean Hester. In addition to her mother and step-father, she is survived by her son, Randy Scott Hester of Shelby; sisters, Linda Goodson of Catawba, and Joann Lankford and husband Johnny of Shelby; brothers, John "Bill" Jones of Lawndale, and Larry Jones and wife Susan of Shelby. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. WILBUR HENSLEY MOORESBORO- Wilbur Ray Hensley, 72, of NC 120 Highway, Mooresboro, died on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at SECU Hospice House of Rutherford County. A native of Rutherford County, he was born on Feb. 6, 1943, a son of the late Ray and Mary Hollifield Hensley. He was retired from PPG after 41 years of Service. Mr. Hensley was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He loved to go to Chesnee trade day and collected hammers. He also loved spoiling his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Hensley and grandchild, Jenna Hollifield. He is survived by his wife, Edna Lail Hensley; one son, Rodney Hensley of Ellenboro; three daughters, Jane Hensley-Crook and husband Brian Crook of Blacksburg, Catrina Hollifield of Ellenboro, and Teresa Hensley of Corvalis, OR and wife Sara De; one brother, Don Hensley and wife Kay of Gaffney; his grandchildren, William Morgan and significant other Maegan Zigarevich, Ian Crook, Clayton Lopez, Savannah Hensley-Kellow, Maggie Hensley-Kellow, Abbie Hollifield and Juniper Hensley. VIRGINIA FERN HAVILAND HAMMITT KINGS MOUNTAIN-""Ginny"" and Grandma passed peacefully on April 9, 2015 at the age of 97 years young. The heavenly angels have lifted her to join the love of her life, James Weldon Hammitt. She was also preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Ray Diedrich, her daughter-in-law, Nancy Hammitt, her granddaughter, Sandra Lee Hammitt, and her five siblings, Marge, Paul, Lucille, Glen, and Dick. She took great pride in, and is survived by her two sons, Glen Hammitt, Richard Hammitt and wife Patrice. She leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and extended family. She never forgot their birthdays. She exemplified hard work and remained a giver all her life. Family meant the world to her. From crosswords and cards, to joyful walks and competitive Rummikube, Ginny's contagious smile, incredible memory, and joy for life remain cherished by her loved ones. Chapel Services for her will be held Friday April 17, 2015 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, Ohio and entrusted to DeJohn Funeral Home, 126 South Street, Chardon, Ohio, 44024. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is serving the family locally.
