Senn, Marjorie* - Shelby
MARJORIE SENN SHELBY-Marjorie Wilson Senn, age 81, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at home. She was born at home on East Marion Street, Shelby, on Dec. 9, 1934. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Alice and Hackett Wilson. By growing up on Wilson Farm she attended Shelby city schools and graduated from Shelby High School in 1953. Being editor of the high school annual, The Cruiser, was a great experience her senior year. She was chosen to attend Girls State and won the Danforth award. She was the first Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls in Shelby. She attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and majored in business. In 1955, she married Charles Theron Senn from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. They married in Kent and moved to Shelby afterwards. They both worked in the family business, Wilson Tree Company, until the business was sold in 1968. In 1970, Marjorie and Charles purchased Gilliatt's, a flower and gift shop, which was their joy together until Charles' death in 1988. She continued to manage the store until the store was sold in 1990. Her retirement years were filled with family activities, travel, and hobbies. A lifetime study of piano and a recent study of oil painting brought her much personal happiness. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Shelby. She belonged to the Benjamin Cleveland Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Cecelia Music Club. Her friends and family knew her as a lady of great compassion and faith. She will be missed and remembered with great love and affection. Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Caroline Umberger and husband Charles of Charlotte, and Cathy Garrett and husband Henry of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Richard Umberger and Mary Garrett; a sister, Carolyn Gaston of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Jean Senn of Ohio; nieces, Julia Nicopoulos and Joni Senn, nephews, John Gaston and Jim Gaston. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Tony Tench. Private burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery. Because of Marjorie's great love for flowers, the family requests planting flowers this spring in her memory. Online condolences may be made at www.cecilmburtonfuneralhome.com.
