DOT PUTNAM SHELBY- Cordie "Dot" Jenkins Putnam, 93, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Hattie Hale Jenkins. She was a member of Aldersgate U.M.C. where she was a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart Senior Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Odell Putnam; and daughter, Debbie King. She is survived by her loving daughter, Janice "Jane" Zirkle and husband Marty of Shelby; son-in-law, Harry King of South Riding, VA; brother, Cecil Jenkins and wife Ruby of Shelby; grandchildren, Tracy Cook and husband Eddie of South Riding, VA, Frankie King and wife Stacy of Oak Hill, VA, Mark Zirkle and wife Shawn of Stanley; Matthew Zirkle and wife Dana of Brentwood, Tenn., Justin King and wife Sarah of South Riding, VA, and Jennifer Lovelace and husband Ron of Belmont; 18 great-grandchildren; and dear friend and scrabble partner, Mable Hardin of Shelby. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Hayward Morrison and Charlotte Brendel officiating. Ray, Angela* - Shelby  
ANGELA RAY SHELBY-Angela "Angie" Bronson Ray, 54, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at her home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Janice Patterson Bronson of Shelby and the late Ray Bronson. She was formerly employed at Dicey Mill at their controller. Angie was a faithful member of New Bethel Church of Shelby, where she served in many different capacities over the years. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 32 year, Robert "Bob" Ray, of the home; son, Andy Ray; and sister, Tina Tomlin and husband Donald, all of Shelby. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, at 3 p.m., at New Bethel Church of Shelby. The family will receive friends one hour, prior to the service, at the church. Rev. Mark Patchett will be officiating. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family.

Reid, Christine* - Shelby  
CHRISTINE DAVIS REID Mrs. Christine Davis Reid, 92, of Shelby, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014 at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain, NC. Born Aug. 29, 1922, in Henderson County, Mrs. Reid was the daughter of the late James Madison and Lula Mae (Redden) Davis and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Warren James Reid; four brothers, Archie M. Davis, James Percy Davis, Lon A. Davis and Benjamin F. Davis; two sisters, Ellen J. Stuart and Julia D. Clapsaddle. Mrs. Reid graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Morganton, NC in 1943. After graduation, she continued her nursing until retirement in 1992 after 49 years of service. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where she was a member of the Keenage Sr. Adult Choir. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Richard Reid and wife Tina of Gastonia, Patti Reid Allred and husband Floyd of Shelby, Phil Reid and wife Sherrie of Shelby and Dwight Reid and wife Cheryl of Simpsonville, SC; nine grandchildren, Karen Timmons and husband Todd of Sumter, SC, Angie Sistare and husband Dale of Sumter, SC, Jonathan Reid, Kristen Reid and Jaycee Reid, all of Gastonia, Brittany Reid James and husband Shawn of Shelby, Landon Reid of Shelby, Matthew Reid and wife Anna of Salt Lake City, UT and Jonathan Reid of Columbus, GA; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Walter R. Davis and wife Bessie Mae of Dayton, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at the White Oak Manor for the loving care they gave Mrs. Reid during her time there and to Hospice Cleveland County for making her last days comfortable. Also, the family expresses special love and gratitude to Sandra Avery for her continued care and devotion. A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Cleveland Funeral Home and Crematory or at other times at the home of Christine. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Rit Varriale. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Clinton Padgett. He was born on Oct. 12, 1950, in Cleveland County, a son of the late Edith Evelyn Patterson Heavner and Jacob Phillip Reynolds. Rogers, Bobby* - Shelby  
BOBBY ROGERS SHELBY- On Dec. 25, 2014, Robert "Bobby" Hamer Rogers, Jr., age 86, joined the church triumphant and many family members and friends. Bobby was born to Robert Hamer Rogers Sr. and Clara Ellenburg Rogers on March 18, 1928, in Great Falls, S.C. Bobby moved with his family from Durham in 1932 to Shelby where his father was the Ford and Lincoln Automobile dealer. Bobby was educated in the Shelby School system and McCallie Preparatory School in Chattanooga Tennessee and was a graduate of Howard Business College. Bobby owned and operated Bobby Music Shop for 58 years and was listed in Who's Who in Young Business Men of America. He was among the first draftees in Cleveland County in 1950 during the Korean Conflict and was a medic in the first division of the Rangers and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. While he was away in the Army his mother operated the business for him. Bobby was a member of Central United Methodist Church. During his life he was very active in the church, holding various positions. He was a teacher in the Hoey Bible class for 56 years. Bobby was a lifelong Democrat. He was past Democratic chairman of the 10th congressional district and past Shelby precinct chairman of district #2. He was a past chairman of the Goodwin House in Raleigh where the largest room, due to Bobby's influence, was named for Cleveland County. He had been the last surviving member of the Shelby Optimist Club and was the current Treasurer. He was the Distinguished Governor of Optimist in North Carolina and was past International Vice President. He was instrumental in the purchase of the land and construction of Optimist Park for Children. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #202; a Shriner and member of the American Legion. He was the last surviving charter member of the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department and was the current Chairman. Bobby was a 30 year member of the Isothermal Board of Planning and Development. He served as Chairman for four terms. He was a past president of the Uptown Shelby Association, and Past President of the Shelby Chamber of Commerce. Bobby had a great love for his church, Shelby, and Cleveland County. In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Hoyle Rogers; two brothers, Tommy Rogers and Will Rogers; and a sister, Ruth Rogers Edgar. Bobby is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian Harmon Rogers; a daughter by marriage, Kimberly Harmon Franks and husband Terry of Kings Mountain; a granddaughter by marriage, Melissa Franks of Charlotte; a grandson by marriage, Will Franks of Kings Mountain; a brother, Sam Rogers of Shelby; a nephew, Sammy Rogers and wife Angie of Shelby; one great nephew and one great niece of Shelby; and his beloved poodle, "Robert Hamer Rogers, III". The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Central United Methodist Church, with Dr. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Central United Methodist Church 200 East Marion St. Shelby, NC 28150, or Cleveland County Humane Society 1609 East Marion St. Shelby, NC 28150.
