SHELBY-Laura Alice Falls Garvin, 92, of Gastonia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Covenant Village in Gastonia.
She was born in Cleveland County on Aug. 29, 1920, to the late Claude Connelly Falls and Laura Lee Cline Falls. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro. Mrs. Garvin was also a graduate of Meredith College.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Dave Coke Garvin; son, David C. Garvin; and two brothers, Henry Falls and Watson Falls.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Edwin Garvin, who is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill Pharmacy School and a pharmacist, and medical missionary and wife Susan who is also a pharmacist, and their daughter, Laura Abigail Garvin, a 2012 graduate of Columbia College, Chicago with a degree in music composition, who lives and works in Chicago; and son, Richard Gary Garvin, a graduate of Davidson University, University of California at Berkley with a M.A., and Vermont College with a M.F.A., who lives in San Jose, Cali., where he teaches at DeAnza College, and his son, Christopher Walker Garvin who is a student at DeAnza College. She is also survived by two sisters, Lillian Falls Michael of Fallston and Jean Falls Whitner of Ala.
