HARTFORD, CONN. - Betty M. Vinson, 57, of 56 Vine Street, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. She was born on May 14, 1956, in Cleveland County, to Robert Lee and Lucy Johnson Vinson. Betty was a 1975 graduate of Burns High School and also attended technical school. She relocated to Hartford, Conn., where she resided for 34 years. In Hartford, she was employed with C.R.T. for 20 years and later worked with the Eastern Seals where she thoroughly enjoyed working with and cooking for the elderly.
Known for her sharp wit, Betty enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and assembling and framing large jigsaw puzzles. In addition, she enjoyed shopping for clothes and makeup.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Vinson, Sr.; and a special cousin, Ronnie Vinson.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved mother, Lucy Vinson of Lawndale; two sons, Marlon Vinson of Lawndale and Ryan Vinson of Shelby; two brothers, Garry Vinson of Hickory, and Robert Lee Vinson, Jr. of Lawndale; a sister, Revonda Vinson of Lawndale; three grandchildren, Isaiah Wilson, Zion Wilson and Shiloh Wilson, all of N.Y.; three nieces, Shonnell Blackburn and Lavonda Blackburn, both of Hickory, and India Vinson of Lawndale; a nephew, Jirian Woody of Greensboro; a special great-nephew, Shaundell Miree Westbrook, Jr.; aunts, Mattie Belle Vinson, Betty Clark (John), both of Lawndale, Gladys V. Perkins of Kings Mountain, Sheila Vinson and Theodosia Lawrence (Paul), both of Lawndale, and Jeanette Grimes of Hickory; uncles, James Johnson, Willie Grimes and Samuel Vinson, all of Lawndale; special friends, Glenda Sims Withrow, Elizabeth "Red" Lee, Reuben Snipes, Michael "Buster" Sims and Betty Jo Dillingham; a number of special friends in Hartford, Conn.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 11:30 to Noon Monday, and at other times at the home of her mother, Lucy Vinson, 2867 Toney Road in Lawndale.
Funeral service: Noon Monday at Jones Tabernacle C.M.E. Church
