SHELBY- William "Bill" Augustus Lynn, 93, of 800 Broad Street, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. Born in Cleveland County on Aug. 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Fred Hunter and Bonnie Catherine Huffstetler Lynn.
He served in the Army
and was a past commander of the Shelby VFW
, where he was a member since 1946. He was a former member of Martin Street United Methodist Church and a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. He molded and shaped young men in Shelby for more than 30 years by coaching baseball and football. He was a member of the Cleveland County Sports Hall of Fame, and Shelby City Park dedicated a baseball field in his honor in 2012. He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Glenn Lynn; a daughter, Barbara Lynn Marsh; a grandson, Charles Brandon Marsh, Sr.; and friend and companion, Gladys McKnight.
Mr. Lynn is survived by a granddaughter, Laura Agerton and fiancee Jammie Mull of Bessemer City; two great-grandsons, Jonathan Jones of Charlotte, and Brandon Marsh, Jr. of Shelby; two brothers, Carl Lynn and Richard Lynn and wife Doris, all of Shelby; caregiver, Tracy Doster of Bessemer City; and his beloved pets, "Baby" and "Miley".
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church

Burial: Will follow with military honors at Cleveland Memorial Park
