Charlie Mintz

KINGSTOWN - Charlie Leben "Burl" Mintz, 69, of 120 Foxhill Drive, departed this life on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at his residence. He was born on June 5, 1944, in Cleveland County, to the late Charlie Mintz, Sr. and Frances Linda Poston Mintz.
On Dec. 24, 1967, he married the love of his life, the late Nancy Carolyn "Pie" Dawkins Mintz.

During his school years, Charlie attended Green Bethel High School. He received his high school diploma at Cleveland Community College. He retired from Smurfit-Stone and formerly worked at Peak Resources, Drexell Furniture and PPG Industries. Charlie was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Usher Board, Pastor's Aid and Scholarship Committees, Church Choir, Trustee Board and was a Sunday School Teacher.
Charlie was very active in his community. He was a founding member of Kingstown and a founding member of the PKY. He was also a member of the Kingstown Community Watch where he served as the street captain for Foxhill Drive and was a member of the ruraltan club. Charlie enjoyed fishing with his buddies and watching his favorite NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and his beloved football team the San Francisco 49ers. He was a devout family man who enjoyed cookouts, birthday celebrations and holidays with his family. Charlie loved the Lord, his family and his church family.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Nancy; and two sisters, Linda G. Mintz and Helen Mintz McGuire.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Shonetta Mintz Martin (Rev. Kenneth Martin), Audrey Allen (fiancé, Tommy Hicks) and Marie Mintz, all of Shelby; two sons, Michael Jerome Mintz (fiancée, Carrie Dabbs) of Shelby and Andre Dwayne Mintz (Demetria) of Charlotte; a god-daughter, Jessica Pryor of Shelby; two sisters, Lizzie Mintz Gidney of Kingstown, and Frances Brenda Strong (Rodney) of Kings Mountain; two brothers, James Mintz and Raymond Mintz (Dorothy), both of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Miller and Eloise Norris (John), both of Shelby; four brothers-in-law, Edward McGurie, Norman Dawkins, Minister Mitchell Dawkins (Shirley) and "Cup" Steepleton of Kannapolis; special friends, Phyllis Boykins, Sparkle Frinks, Edward Surratt and Tommy Brooks, all of Shelby; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Kingstown
