Elaine Brooks

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Rose Elaine McCoin Brooks, 83, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at home. Born in Mitchell, S.D., she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Ruth Ann Dickinson McCoin.
Elaine was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edgar Brooks, Jr. and a sister, Mary Durst.
Elaine was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a past Sunday School teacher. She served her country honorably as a Dental Lab Technician with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Elaine was also a member of the Shelby Eastern Star–Chapter 110 and Amaranth–Chapter 21 in Spindale.
Elaine is survived by her four children, Thomas G. Brooks and wife Teresa, Randy S. Brooks and wife Laurie, James L. Brooks and wife Susan and Barbara J. Gantt and husband Louis; grandchildren, Heather and Matt Clucas, Scott and Courtney Brooks, Tommy and Danah Brooks, John and Kimberly Brooks, Amanda and Ronnie Locklear, and Brenda Brooks; thirteen great-grandchildren; and brothers, Donald McCoin and wife Esther and John McCoin, Jr. and wife Arlene.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. At other times the family will be at the home.
Celebration of life service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain
Officiated by: The Rev. Ronell Owensby
Burial: Will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park with Military Honors
Funeral home: Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
