SHELBY - Flossie Walker Lipscomb, of Shelby, was born on Feb. 22, 1924, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker, Sr. She departed her earthly home on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
She was a member and dedicated servant of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church, having served as Church Treasurer and President of the Usher Board for decades. She received her bachelor's degree in Education from Elizabeth City State University. She taught in the Shelby Public School System and retired after 30 years of service. Following retirement, she served as a volunteer at a local senior center.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and in her free time she liked to fish, garden, cook, sew, crochet and macramé.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Lipscomb Jr.; two brothers, Robert Walker, Jr. and John Henry Walker; and three sisters, Ella Lee Sherman, Blondine Walker and Josie Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Cecilia Gaddy and son-in-law Henry Gaddy; two grandchildren, Amanda and Julius; granddaughter-in-law Kelly; three step-grandchildren, Keith, Korey and Kevin; two great-grandchildren, Julissa and Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be meeting at 1101 Frederick St., Shelby.
