James "Sr." Parker

CHERRYVILLE- James H. Parker Sr., 89, of 185 Otto Rd., passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Hospice at Wendover.
Mr. Parker was born on Dec. 12, 1924, in Rockingham, a son of the late Roy Parker and Ruth Sneed Parker. He formerly worked for the NC State Highway Patrol and served as Chief of Police for Cherryville Police Department. Mr. Parker retired after 22 years from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation as a long line driver. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Connie Grindstaff Parker, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, James H. "Jimmy" Parker Jr. and Sandy; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane Kern and Alan, all of Cherryville; a grandson, Alex James Parker of New York; and a brother, Cecil Parker of Rockingham.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating.
Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
