SHELBY- After a long full life here, Ms. Jennie Bertha Cannedy, 99, of 300 Chestnut Street, Shelby, NC, departed to be reunited with family in Heaven on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, in Shelby. She was born on May 19, 1913, in Anson County, NC to the late John and Essie Williamson Cannedy and was the last child remaining of that union.
Ms. Cannedy graduated from Anson High School in Wadesboro in 1934. She then moved to Shelby where she remained for the rest of her life. She was known for caring for her family and enjoyed cooking her famous beef roast and potatoes. She loved planting flowers, especially sunflowers. She loved when friends, Jonathan would bring chicken legs and a Coke, and watching football games with her; Ann for bringing her orange slices; Annette's letters; and Betty for the gifts such as quilts from the mountains.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Johnnie Bell Huntley and Mae Ruth Hopper; three brothers, William Kennedy, Ernest Canedy and Marshall Williamson and a grandson, Larry Walker.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sarah Walker of Shelby; two grandchildren, Patricia Finney of Shelby and Leslie walker of Edgefield, SC; one great-grandson, Aaron Walker of Shelby; a child she reared in the home, Annie Ruth Allison of Philadelphia, PA; a special nephew, Levon Kennedy (Reba) of Greensboro, NC; her son-in-law, Joseph Finney of Shelby; special friends, Jonathan McCluney, Betty Thompson, Annette Walker, Laura Williams, Sherry Procter and Ann Brooks and a host of additional nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. at the church on Monday
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Hopewell Baptist Church
